Course objectives
The course objective is to provide students with knowledge across the area of core legal sectors of public and private law related to the issues of work with seniors and with their subsequent application, including the application of specific legislation to selected life and social situations.
Learning outcomes
Following the theoretical knowledge acquired in the sub-legal sectors, students acquire the ability to analyse and apply legislation in the field of care of the elderly in practical terms. Professional knowledge: Students will acquire current theoretical knowledge in the field of private and public institutes closely related to the issue of care of the elderly, they will be well versed in professional terminology, able to define individual social events in connection with the legislative anchoring of the issue.

Professional skills: Students will be able to take a qualified approach to solving individual social situations when caring of the elderly from the point of view of legislation. They will be able to analyse the content of legislation and the resulting rights and obligations of persons caring of the elderly and of the elderly themselves, subsequently putting these legislative principles in a practical context, including the implementation of counselling in difficult life situations of seniors.

General qualification: Students can analyze legislation related to the issue of care of the elderly, interpret their wording and apply individual pieces of legislation to specific practical cases. They will be able to further analyze the concepts related to the rights and obligations of seniors in society and navigate the possibilities of procedures.
Syllabus
  • 1. Guarantees of respect for human rights – human rights and freedoms, protection of human rights, human dignity, human personality, protection of personality, mental and physical integrity, possibilities of legal protection, legal capacity, guardianship
  • 2. Family law – the institution of marriage, marital community property, rights and obligations of spouses, mutual representation of spouses, maintenance obligation, divorce, consequences of dissolution of marriage
  • 3. Property – right to own property, forms of ownership, acquisition of ownership, transfer of ownership, easements, lien, retention right
  • 4. Succession of property – last will, agreement of succession, inheritance, legal succession, institution of disinheritance, division of the estate – debts affecting the heirs, refusal of succession, incapacity for succession, escheat, administrator of the estate, inventory of the estate
  • 5. Obligations — conclusion of contracts — form, content, effects of the contract and its performance, conclusion of contracts in a remote manner and obligations from off-premises contracts, consumer contracts, rights of defective performance, withdrawal from the contract
  • 6. Legal obligations – the most common types of contracts – contract of purchase, donation, rent, sublet, commodate, loan, exchange, safe deposit, account, mediation, transport of persons and goods, work, insurance
  • 7. Damages – damage insurance, life insurance, accident insurance, property insurance, compensation for material and non-material damages, methods and extent of compensation
  • 8. Labour relations – employment contract, contract to complete a job, contract to perform work, rights and obligations of employees and employers, statutory deductions
  • 9. Employment — Labour Office, job seeker, support period — unemployment benefit, active and passive employment policy, employment for the elderly
  • 10. Sickness benefits and pension insurance – sickness benefits, care of a family member, retirement pension, disability pension, widow's pension , widow's pension, orphan’s pension
  • 11. Benefit system — state social support — housing benefit, child support, maternity grant, bereavement benefit, parental allowance, living and existential minimum, benefits of assistance in material need — subsistence allowance, housing supplement, emergency immediate assistance, care allowance
  • 12. Provision of disabled people - special aid allowance, mobility allowance, disability card
  • 13. Patients' rights – rights of the patient in the provision of medical care, right to information, privacy, rights of survivors, public health insurance
