- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge about the importance of language and communication competence in the process of socialization. It will include an outline of the historical development of the field of speech therapy, its position in the system of sciences and current trends in speech therapy, including the organization of speech therapy intervention in the Czech Republic. Emphasis will be placed on orientation in professional terminology and biopsychosocial conditions of ontogenetic speech development.

- student describes current trends and concepts in speech therapy, knows the legislative framework
- student defines basic concepts and theories in speech therapy
- the student is able to clarify the conditions for acquiring language and speech skills
Professional skills:
- the student explains the importance of speech therapy in the practical activities of a special pedagogue
- student applies knowledge of speech development to pedagogical phenomena and processes
- student analyzes specific manifestations and risk manifestations of verbal and nonverbal communication
- the student finds a suitable information source for the purpose of applying modified methods and forms in the field of acquiring language and speech skills
General competences:
- the student adequately reflects the special needs of people at increased risk in the area of language and speech skills
- the student is ready to cooperate with other experts in order to eliminate demotivating influences and determine support measures in the education of persons at increased risk in the field of language and speech skills

- 1. Speech therapy, basic concepts, meaning. Outline of the historical development of the scientific field.
- 2. Selected theories of language and speech skills acquisition.
- 3. Basic categories of impaired communication skills.
- 4. Conditions of ontogenetic development of speech, physiological peculiarities of speech development, language levels.
- 5. Impaired speech development in terms of course. Methods and means of speech therapy intervention.
- 6. The most common types of impaired communication skills in preschool and school age. Conditions of education of children and pupils with impaired communication skills, organization of speech therapy care in the Czech Republic.
- 7. Biological bases of speech (differentiation processes, phonemic differentiation).
- 8. Linguistic basics of speech, components of speech, phonetic and phonological realization of speech elements.
- 9. System of Czech sounds. Articulation and pathology of vocals and consonants.
- 10. Creation of sounds of human speech, speakers, their functions.
- 11. Articulatory systems and their functions, principles of voice hygiene.
- 12. Tasks of speech therapy prevention in preschool and early school age.
