Course objectives
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical course, focusing on the expertise of the different ages of a child's life. The student will acquire the basic knowledge of first aid for various health-threatening and damaging conditions. The course also includes knowledge of disaster medicine, emergency care and crisis management (activation of the Integrated Rescue System).
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge: the student can describe the causes and symptoms of selected accident and non-accident health damaging conditions and can explain the principles of first aid with specifics related to childhood and children in general, based on the pathophysiology of the organism at risk. They can define recommended procedures for neonatal, child and adult CPR and know and explain the importance of the integrated rescue system and crisis management. The student will be able to effectively provide first aid and CPR for selected traumatic and non-traumatic health impairing conditions in children and adults. General competence. Upon completion of the course, the learner will be familiar with first aid and CPR. In further study and clinical practice, the learner will deepen and improve his/her knowledge and skills.
Syllabus
  • 1. Meaning and provision of first aid, division of first aid. Integrated rescue system, emergency medicine, disaster medicine. 2. Emergencies with mass disability. Triage of the injured. 3. Uniform procedure for first aid, examination of the injured, monitoring of the health condition of the injured.Specifics of examination and monitoring in children. 4. Fundamentals of dressing technique.Types of dressings, options for application. 5. Positioning and transport of the disabled. Transport options, aids according to the type of disability, age and weight of the child. 6.Wounds and bleeding. Types of bleeding, first aid options according to type of bleeding, safety principles. Basic knowledge of blood, the amount of blood in the child's and adult's body and its composition. 7. Shock. 8. Disorders of consciousness.Options for assessing the state of consciousness in relation to the age of the child. 9. convulsions and convulsions. Typing to childhood age. Epi, febrile convulsions. 10. Disorders of airway patency; drowning, hanging, strangulation. Specification of the respiratory tract in the child. 11. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation - neonate, child under 1 year, toddler, adult. 12. Craniotrauma. 13. Facial injuries - acute conditions threatening the eye, nose, teeth. 14. Spinal cord and spinal cord injuries. 15. Severe chest injuries. 16. Severe abdominal injuries. 17. limb injuries; pressure injuries., polytrauma. 18. Heat, cold, electrical, chemical, intoxication injuries. Specifics of the child's skin, specifics by area of disability, specifics of care by site of disability. 19. Selected acute conditions in paediatrics. 20. Acute conditions in obstetrics, preterm labor, care of the mother and newborn.

Teaching methods
0/24/0 Completion: zk. Contact teaching (lecture, presentation, critical thinking methods, role-playing, instruction, demonstration, discussion, self-study) is conducted by a system of consultations on selected topics. The combined part of the study is carried out in an e-learning course on the e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. For teaching, the students are provided with study aids including correspondence assignments. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied topics of the course through individual or group consultations or e-mail. Completion of 80% attendance in the class, demonstrating activity, theoretical and practical knowledge continuously during the class (a student who, for serious reasons, could not attend the compulsory class, will be assigned by the instructor an alternative way of fulfilling the study obligations). Credit: written test, 80% success rate Examination: oral and practical test of professional knowledge and skills.
Assessment methods
Completion of 80% attendance in the classroom, demonstration of activity, theoretical and practical knowledge continuously during the class (a student who for serious reasons could not attend the compulsory class will be assigned by the teacher an alternative way of fulfilling his/her study obligations). Credit: oral and practical examination of professional knowledge and skills. Examination: written test, 80% pass rate.

Teacher's information
Contact teaching is conducted by a system of lectures, seminars and consultations on selected topics. The combined part of the study is partially implemented in the e-learning course environment on the e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The student will be able to continuously consult individually studied topics of the course through individual or group consultations or e-mail. The scope of the consultations (concentration) is individual up to 8 hours.
