Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the development of society's attitudes and approaches to persons with disabilities, with strategic and legislative documents guaranteeing equal access in education and training. The aim of the course is to provide the necessary basic theoretical knowledge on the issue of school education of children and pupils with a focus on difficulties, shortcomings and problems faced by education actors. The course offers a range of topics that have a multidisciplinary character, which school practice looks at in the context of pedagogical intervention.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- define basic terms from special pedagogy,
- get an overview of the constitution of the scientific field of special pedagogy in a global and national context,
- know the current terminology and the relationship of special pedagogy to other sciences,
- know the specifics of the education of persons with special needs in the field of physical, psychological or social in the context of their comprehensive development and socialization,
- have basic knowledge in the field of school difficulties,
- have basic knowledge in the field of specific learning disabilities,
- have basic knowledge about partial function deficits,
- know special education diagnostics,
- know the relevant current legislation,
- know the terminology of etopedia and SPUCH,
- have an overview of pedagogic-psychological consultations,
- know the tasks of the school counseling office (educational counselor, school prevention methodologist, school special pedagogue, school psychologist).
Syllabus
  • Special pedagogy in the system of sciences and goals, basic terminology in special pedagogy. (Subtopics: object of care in special pedagogy, development of the name of the scientific field, overview of current names abroad, paradigms of special pedagogy, models of disability, definition of concepts within departments, sociability, socialization, degrees of socialization).
  • Classification of special pedagogy, etiology and symptomatology of disability. (Subtopics: developmental peculiarities of children with disabilities, factors influencing the socialization of persons with disabilities, examples, secondary consequences of disabilities).
  • Aspects of special pedagogical intervention in the education of children and pupils with special educational needs. (Subtopics: individualization of teaching, examples, individual teaching, examples, teaching of the subject of special pedagogical care, pedagogical support plan, individual educational plan, specifics of working with children with special educational needs in kindergarten).
  • System and principles of coordinated rehabilitation and development of care for persons with disabilities. (Subtopics: medical rehabilitation, social rehabilitation, pedagogical rehabilitation, occupational rehabilitation).
  • Strategic, conceptual and legislative documents regulating the position of persons with disabilities in society. (Subtopics: international documents governing the status of persons with disabilities).
  • Professional competence of a special pedagogue. (Subtopics: screening and diagnosis, consultation, counseling and intervention competences, methodological, coordination and educational competences).
  • Relationship to inclusive education of pupils with behavioral problems and behavioral disorders.
  • Orientation in strategic and methodical documents concerning target groups of the field.
  • SPUCH terminology and partial function deficits. (Subtopics: stages of basal development of perception, systemic deficits of partial functions, processes of understanding - examples, relationship between spoken and written forms of language).
  • School counseling workplaces and school counseling facilities.
