The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the individual processes and tasks in personnel management in organizations. Students will learn to implement the activities according to the attached syllabus.

1. Personnel management in organizational context

Historical background of personnel management and human resources management. Difference between personnel management and human resource management. Definition and key differences. Role and objectives of personnel management. Personnel management activities and functions: operative and managerial.
2. Job analysis
Definition of job analysis. Reasons to invest time in performing job analysis. Basic steps of job analysis. Job analysis methods and resources. Procedure of job analysis. Responsibilities of human resources management. The data collection process. Job descriptions and specification.
3. Recruitment and hiring process
Definition of recruitment. Steps in the recruiting process. Full life cycle recruiting. Ways to find candidates. Job application process. Types of recruiting. Selection process and types of selection methods. Assessment center - ways and steps. Recruiting and hiring process: a cost.
4. Performance appraisal
Performance management cycle. Main features of performance appraisal. Performance appraisal system: tools and techniques. Relationship of performance appraisal and job analysis. Objectives of performance appraisal: potential benefits and potential complications. Methods of collecting data: past-oriented and future oriented. Peer and self-assessment: principles and criteria. Legal and cross-cultural implications.
5. Training and development
Training and development process. Training methods of employees. Career and succession planning. Concept of career. Career management and development. Need for training and development. Training objectives and strategies. 6. Motivation and rewards
Types of motivation theories: content and process theories. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory. Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory. Theory X and Theory Y. Process of motivation. Motivation techniques. Tangible and intangible rewards. Financial and non-financial methods of motivation. Employee benefit system.
7. New trends in personnel management
The development of personnel management and new features in business. New technology and innovations. New trends. Ethical Issues Faced by Personnel Management.
Conditions and evaluation

LECTURE (2 lessons) + SEMINAR (1 lesson)

Evaluation:

max. 100 points

40% project, 60% final exam
