Course objectives

Composition of the course includes explanation of basic digital library and digital library information services terminology. Lectures cover historical factors of origin digital libraries, ilustrative practical cases of online digital libraries, terminology, technical and technological aspects, standards and formation systems of digital libraries. Objectives of the course is an introduction to typology digital objects, growth trends online information services in electronic medium. Lectures engage in purposes and roles of DL, DL architecture, metadate use, interoperability and cooperation of DL systems.

Syllabus (in Czech)

• 1. Obecná problematika systémů digitálních knihoven - vymezení pojmů; historické aspekty; digitalizace; typy digitálních objektů (zdrojů) a jejich formáty; současné aktivity, aktuální stav a význam DK
  2. Obecný rámec a architektura digitálních knihoven - základní prvky, části, kategorie; architektura DK; legislativní a autorskoprávní aspekty DK
  3. Metadata v systémech digitálních knihoven - účel, funkce, použití; typologie a klasifikace; standardy vycházející ze struktury MARC; DC- Dublin Core; metadata Kongresové knihovny; XML a RDF
  4. Jména a identifikátory - koncept URN; klasické identifikátory: ISBN, ISSN, SICI/BICI, ISTC; PURL- persistentní URL; Handle System; DOI
  5. Kooperace systémů digitálních knihoven - Interoperabilita - systém spolupráce DK; mezinárodní standardy; iniciativa otevřených archivů OAI; globální vyhledávání zdrojů
  6. Vybrané programy a projekty digitálních knihoven - klíčové oblasti výzkumu DK; Digital Library Initiative; eLIB; NDLP; Paměť světa; iniciativy EU v oblasti rozvoje DK
  7. Budoucnost digitalizace - mezinárodní iniciativy; uchovávání kulturního dědictví; další vývoj digitalizace; výběrová kritéria, technické a personální zajištění; příklady digitalizace kulturních a vědeckých materiálů
