Course objectives
Unification approaches to the theory of elementary particles are used to construct cosmological models in the so-called inflationary phase of the very early universe. Impact of inflationary models on the creation of large-scale structure of the universe is discussed.
Syllabus
  • The standard model of elementary particles, elementary particles, electroweak interactions, the strong nuclear interaction, grand unification, supersymmetry, supergravity, string theory.
Problems of the standard cosmological model, magnetic monopole, the problem of causal horizon, flatness problem, the initial fluctuations, relict cosmological constant.
Phase transitions, spontaneous symmetry breaking, a simple model, tunneling, domain walls, cosmic strings, gravitational field around the strings, magnetic monopole, Kibble mechanism, observations of magnetic monopoles.
Inflationary paradigm. The basic idea of ??inflationary models, the false vacuum, antigravity effects of vacuum energy, inflation generated by inflaton scalar field, the exponential expansion of the universe and troubleshooting the standard model slow rolling inflationary models.
Primordial inflation. Chaotic inflation, landscape, quantum birth of the universe out of nowhere? Multiverse, multi-dimensional spacetime.
The initial fluctuations. The development of fluctuations, the primordial spectrum of fluctuations, the emergence of structures, testing inflationary models.
Dark energy in the present universe. Relict vacuum energy, quintessence and relationship to dark matter.
