Course objectives
The content of the course is to deepen the students' theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of spatial analysis and their application in archaeology. Spatial analyzes will be carried out in the environment of geographic information systems (GIS), specifically in QGIS program. Students will learn the basic work procedures for performing spatial analyzes and methods of presentation results in the form of a map.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to GIS issues, explanation of basic terms. 2. Familiarization with the working environment of the Quantum GIS program, setting project and coordinate parameters system. 3. Cartographic representations. 4. Principles of creating a geographic database. 5. Web map service service in Quantum GIS - familiarization and work with data available online, connection and follow-up work with the data of the Czech Land Surveying and Cadastral Office. 6. Digitization and editing. Georeferencing image data. 7. Raster data. 8. Vector data. 9. Analyzes of raster data. 10. Analyzes of vector data. 11. Working with geotagged photos. 12. Creation of map output. 13. Presentation of student projects and colloquium.

Assessment methods
Credit. At the end of the semester, students will present their own finished analysis of the prehistoric/medieval settlement in the given region. There will also be an oral examination in the form of a colloquium.
