- Course objectives
- The course is focused on the systematic and comprehensive development of language competence and on the practical application of communicative skills for intermediate English speakers. Students will consolidate and deepen their knowledge of English grammar, expand their vocabulary and practice pronunciation. The emphasis will be on speaking and listening. Classes will be based on lessons 5-8 of the English File Pre-Intermediate 3rd Edition textbook.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- expand his/her vocabulary;
- consolidate and deepen the knowledge of English grammar;
- improve his/her pronunciation; - Syllabus
- 1. Comparative adjectives and adverbs. Time expressions. Sentence stress. 2. Superlatives. Describing a town or city. Word and sentence stress. 3. Quantifiers. Health and the body. 4. Will / won’t (predictions). Opposite verbs. 5. Will / won’t (decisions, offers, promises). Verb + back. Word stress (two-syllable words). 6. Review of verb forms (present, past, future). Adjectives + prepositions. 7. Uses of the infinitive with to. Verbs + infinitive (try to, forget to, etc.). Weak form of to, linking. 8. Uses of the gerund. Verbs + gerund. The letter i. 9. Have to, don’t have to, must, musn’t. Modifiers (a bit, really, etc.). 10. Should. The verb get. Sentence stress. 11. First conditional. Confusing verbs. Linking. 12. Possessive pronouns. Adverbs of manner. Sentence rhythm. 13. Revise and check 5-8.
