- Course objectives
- The course deepens and expands the basic knowledge of the legal history of the Czech lands from the early Middle Ages to the present. It provides an overview of the theoretical basis with an explanation of the history of one's own field. Attention is paid to the legitimacy of sovereign power in the period of the monarchy, the medieval (and early modern) legal system, the reception of elements of Roman law and modern civil society law. Institutions (various types of courts, etc.) and categories of law (criminal, private, upper, feudal, lordship, lordship, municipal, guild, etc.) are presented, always in the context of times and changes in the social climate. Biographical medallions of important personalities of the field from the Middle Ages to the threshold of modern times are not neglected.
- Learning outcomes
- By completing the course, the student will comprehensively expand and deepen their knowledge of the legal history of the Czech lands. Gain an overview of the theoretical background and history of the field. They will be acquainted with the legal system of pre-modern (feudal) society, as well as with the principles on which the law of modern civil society is based. Understands institutions and categories of law in the past in the context of their changes.
