Course objectives
The course expands students' knowledge of cultural history and heritage by European, respectively. world dimension. Attention is paid to selected monuments of the world (Mesopotamia, Egypt, civilization of the American continent and Asia) and especially European cultural heritage (monuments of individual countries from prehistory, antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Baroque, 19th and 20th centuries). Their role in the historical context and especially in the current practice is emphasized, especially in the field of education, tourism and the development of the tertiary sphere. In the seminar, students learn to distinguish and compare cultural values from different historical periods and different world civilizations, they are led to form an independent opinion, to a creative approach to the presentation of cultural heritage.

  • 1. Culture and cultural heritage 2. Cultural monuments of European prehistory. 3. Development of cultural values in ancient Mesopotamia 4. Development of cultural values in ancient Egypt. 5. Monuments and cultural heritage of the civilizations of America and Asia 6. Culture and cultural heritage of ancient Greece and Rome. 7. Culture of the European Middle Ages. 8. Cultural heritage of the European Renaissance. 9. Cultural heritage of the European Baroque. 10. European culture of the 19th century and modern monuments.
Teaching methods
Lecture and seminar (individual essay on the "long life" of a selected, outstanding monument in European or world culture).
Assessment methods
lecture - exam (test); exercises - assessment of individual work and activity in group classes
