Course objectives
The subject "Compulsory practice III" concludes a three-part cycle of subjects in which students should become more familiar with professional field archeology as a whole. The main focus in this final section will be on the most important – archaeological research. In practice, the students should familiarize themselves with investigative research, or revisions - both implements through probes or small-scale outcrops (these methods overlap to a large extent), and above all research rescue, especially large-scale ones. Systematic research is very rare these days and tends to be limited in time (they are practically unrealizable without grant funds). Students should mainly participate in large-scale rescue research, which today in field archaeological work represent a decisive moment. The participation of the listeners should start with participation in the preparation of the research (its focus, selection and application of appropriate excavation methods). Of course, they should also participate in the actual excavation work and theirs documentation (photographic, drawing and written), also on other activities connected with them (filling in stratigraphic matrices, provisional treatment and storage of findings and collected samples, their research records) up to the creation of the Findings news. The goal is for students to be able to decide on the optimal research method in their future professional practice starting and then they were able to correctly apply or modify it during the research in connection with the finding situation and to know what to do with its results. The place and time of practice will be determined for individual students by the head of the Institute of Archeology at the proposal of the subject guarantor. At the same time, the preferences of the listener himself and, in the case of this final one, should also be taken into account subject and to the studied specialization. The student will keep a diary about the internship, the mentor and supervisor will write a short one characteristics of his participation in practice. These documents will be taken into account during the final interview with the student by the guidance of the subject guarantor with the participation of other persons (usually the participation of a mentor and supervisor is assumed). Decision on granting or not granting credit belongs to the guarantor of the subject.
Learning outcomes
Students should primarily participate in large-scale rescue research, with participation in the preparation of the research (its focus, selection and application of appropriate excavation methods). They should also participate in the actual excavation works and their documentation (photographic, drawing and written), as well as in other activities associated with them (filling in stratigraphic matrices, provisional treatment and storage of finds and samples taken, their research records) up to the creation of the Findings Report.
