- Course objectives
- The course traces the internal development of the towns and their economic and political ties to outward environment. The emphasis will be placed on the functions of various types of urban records, the relation to the landlord, the formation of a specific legal system, the coexistence of urban institutions and of various social groups. Attention will be paid to the complex urban organisms and their rural hinterland and to the transregional merchant networks.
