Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with modern instrumental analytical techniques and their application in conservation. Emphasis is placed on techniques for sampling artefacts and monuments and preparation of samples for analysis. In addition to familiarize students with the principles used in instrumental analytical methods (optical and electron microscopy, X-ray analysis, atomic and molecular spectroscopy and chromatography) applications and methods of analytical chemistry in the survey of various materials (metals, wood, textiles and leather, stone and ceramics, photo material). The main task of the seminar will be writing a seminar paper - work will focus on a description of the instrumental method and its use in the survey of historical materials. Above the results of seminar papers will be shared discussion moderated by the teacher. Requirements on student
