Course objectives
The course characterizes regions in their historical, territorial and functional variability, explains basic concepts (region, regional studies, regional policy, and regional development); presents basic categories of regions in relation to the study, protection and presentation of cultural heritage. The course draws attention to the role of regions in European integration and cooperation (Euroregions), the importance of regional perspective in relation to project opportunities in the protection and presentation of cultural heritage. It focuses on regional aspects of institutional support for the protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in all its layers at regional level in the Czech Republic, both in terms of the administrative definition of the region and its perception as a cultural and historical entity. In this context, it defines and characterizes the function, purpose and historical aspects of the development of memory, national heritage and other professional institutions with territorial/regional competences involved in the care of cultural heritage. It also presents selected types of organisations that are involved in popularising cultural heritage at the regional level and are making it accessible to the public in the form of educational, leisure and relaxation activities. Specific activities will be presented on the example of regional institutions in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia with cross-border cooperation, especially within Euroregions.
