Student must submit current medical certificate of his medical fitness for work in the laboratory of conservation center, where he works and manipulates with chemicals (acids, bases, volatile substances etc.)and uses chemical-physical instruments. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is a thorough acquaintance of students with the issues of conservation and restoration of museum collection items made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals (iron, copper, tin, lead, zinc, silver, gold and aluminum). Attention will also be paid to the protection of metal archaeological finds. Methods, research, preventive and remediation conservation and restoration of metal artifacts will be discussed. Students apply theoretical knowledge in practical exercises and seminar papers.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the course will be able to theoretically design and practically perform: - intervention documentation - survey of metal objects - draw up a proposal for intervention - cleaning of basic conservation and restoration of metal objects - storage of treated objects with emphasis on the principles of preventive conservation

- 1. Metals - general introduction. 2. Methods of metal exploration 3. Degradation of metals. 4. Properties, degradation and principles of conservation and restoration of ferrous objects. 5. Principles of conservation and restoration of iron objects. 6. Properties, degradation and principles of conservation and restoration of objects made of copper alloys. 7. Principles of conservation and restoration of objects made of copper alloys. 8. Properties, degradation and principles of conservation and restoration of silver. 9. Properties, degradation and principles of lead conservation and restoration. 10. Properties, degradation and principles of tin conservation and restoration. 11. Properties, degradation and principles of zinc conservation and restoration. 12. Properties, degradation and principles of conservation and restoration of gold. 13. Properties, degradation and principles of conservation and restoration of aluminum and other light metals.
