Course objectives
Goal of the subject is to introduce students to foundations of stellar structure and evolution.
Learning outcomes
Student will understand basic laws of physics that describe stellar structure and will be able to solve them assuming simplifications.
Syllabus
  • Lectures are focused on understanding of stellar structure, origin, and evolution up to late stages.
  • Characteristics of stars. Sun
  • Stellar matter.
  • Hydrostatic equilibrium.
  • Sources of energy, nucleosynthesis.
  • Energy transport.
  • Equations of stellar structure.
  • Stellar atmosphere.
  • Birth and evolution of stars
  • Late stages of stellar evolution
  • Binary systems. Evolution of binaries, variable stars, supernovae.
  • Special lectures I, II (focus on new discoveries, or, discussion of former lectures)
