Course objectives
The goal of the course is to acquaint the student with basic information on law and legislation and with valid legislation related to the system of health and social care, including rights and obligations of medical professions, clients / patients and state administration bodies.
Syllabus
  • 1. Legal system of the Czech Republic, with regard to constitutional law.
    2. Theory of law, sectors of law.
    3. Labour law, labour relations.
    4. European Council Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine (applicable since 1.12.1999) and its application in practice.
    5. Medical law - basic legal regulation in public health 1.
    6. Medical law - basic legal regulation in public health 2.
    7. Social security law.
    8. Legal responsibility.
    9. Patient's informed consent (right of self-determination). Protection of rights of terminally ill and dying persons.
    10. Liability for damage according to Civil Code.
    11. Legal protection of children and youth.
    12. Patient's refusal of care, nurse's refusal of care.
    13. Criminal liability.
    14. Legal protection of patients as health service users.
    15. Individual medical documentation from legal perspective.
    16. Personal data and information protection.
    17. Nurse's steps at patient's death.

Teacher's information
The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is completed by the credit made in written form and by the oral exam. The student will demonstrate the knowledge of basic and selected recommended reading and will be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have the opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
Successful credit test, cut-off score: 80%
Requirements on exam: oral exam. Written test. Oral exam.
