Course objectives
Clinical propaedeutic is an introduction to the study of clinical disciplines (e.g. propaedeutic of internal medicine is an introduction to internal medicine). The course aims to teach the student theterms of health, disease, symptoms of diseases, medical procedures at patient examination and examination methods. The course outlines the way to take when making a diagnosis. After finishing the course, the student will be well informed about skills needed to examine a patient. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to describe and explain basic procedure of patient examination, starting with anamnesis and finishing with making a diagnosis. Professional skills: The student is able to examine a patient in practice and select a suitable examination method of the following procedure. General ability: The students are able to orientate themselves in the given field. Competence: The student actively participates in the examination process within their qualification, is able to cooperate with the patient adequately and to assist the patients with solving their problems responsibly.

  • Lectures:
    1. Anamnesis.
    2. Physical examination.
    3. Overall physical condition of the patient.
    4. Basic findings on head and neck.
    5. Basic findings on chest and thoracic organs.
    6. Basic findings on the abdomen and abdominal organs.
    7. Examination of the musculoskeletal system.
    8. Basic neurological examination.
    9. Overview of examination methods.
    Seminars and practical sessions:
    1. Basic physical examinations.
    2. Examination of the head, neck.
    3. Examination of the chest, heart, lungs.
    4. Examination of the abdomen and abdominal organs.
    5. Examination of the urogenital system.
    6. Examination of the peripheral blood vessels.
    7. Examination of the lymphatic nodes.
    8. Examination of the nervous system.

Credit requirements: active attendance in a minimum of 80 per cent of practical sessions. (Student who could not attend a number of lessons for serious reasons will be assigned extra tasks to meet course requirements.)
Exam requirements: written test, a minimum of 80 per cent of correct answers are required
