- Course objectives
- The course contents form the core of general nurses' professional skills and it is included in the complex of basic specialized courses. The instruction is practical. It allows students to obtain basic manual skills and confidence in safe and quality providing of professional interventions and procedures to clients/patients. The intervention, which has been performed in high quality, respects individual needs of a client/patient, above all his/her needs of comfort, respect, security and safety. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The students gain a basic overview of theoretical knowledge about nursing techniques and procedures in acute and intensive care. Professional skills: The students are able to perform basic nursing techniques and procedures practically and according to the latest requirements. General ability: The students are able to assess patient's condition and to choose the most appropriate nursing procedure. Competence: The students shall deepen and enhance the gained skills to work by means of the method of the nursing process in acute and critical conditions in following studies and clinical practice.
- Syllabus
- 1. Securing of the central vein, care of a central venous catheter, central venous pressure taking.
2. Fundamentals of EKG assessment in acute care.
3. Securing of the air passages in acute and intensive care, care of the air passages.
4. Nursing care of patients connected to an artificial lung ventilation device.
5. General anaesthesia, local anaesthesia, outpatient anaesthesia.
6. Cardioversion, defibrillation, temporary cardiac stimulation, permanent cardiac stimulation, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.
7. Specifics of nursing care in an intensive ward.
8. Care of an epidural catheter, monitoring of complications, application of medicines.
9. Drainages, types of drainages, nursing care.
