Course objectives
The course introduces students to the issues of social and legal protection of children and youth, with its historical context and current global trends.Students learn the issues of SPOD in a family context and the wider social context, including the issues of diagnosis.An integral part of the course is the skill of assessing a family in terms of fulfilment of the child’s needs.
Learning outcomes
The student will know the legal definition of the issue, the working procedures of a social worker when working with a child at risk. He will also know the methods of social work with the family in various situations that threaten the child or partner.

    3. industrial revolution, enlightenment, help and protection of children
    4. the first republic, the time of communism
    5. current paradigms of social and legal protection of children and their impact on practice
    6. change of the Czech paradigm and the SPOD
    tool 7. practice in neighboring states - a comparative view of contemporary Europe
    8. SPOD tools in the Czech Republic
    9. evaluation of the PMV of the child and family, practical experience with  enrollment
    10. case conferences and related services for registered persons and caregivers
    11. NRP dilemmas

Teaching methods
The teaching will take place in the format - presentation of the given issue and practical experience with family case studies.
Assessment methods
Compulsory attendance at 80% of the seminars at least.The fundamental condition for the successful completion of the course is knowledge of the terminology, paradigms of Social-Legal Child Protection (SPOD - Sociálně-právní ochrana dítěte), their impact on the Czech practice.
