Course objectives
The course objective is to practice all necessary knowledge, skills and work habits in the dental hygienist's office.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: setting indices (scores) according to given (international) standards with an emphasis on compliance with fixed criteria.
Professional skills: communication with the client in regard to the rational acquisition of important medical history data and especially in respect of ethical standards of handling personal data and in respect of the clients’ rights.
General competence: examination of the oral cavity and formulation of the examination results in a clear and comprehensible way.
Competence: motivating patients to perform proper oral hygiene and properly instructing them on dental models as well as in the patients’ mouth.
Areas of dental hygienists’ professional practice: Removal of both supraginginal and subginginal tartar by means of both hand tools and devices, sharpening hand tools for tartar removal, removal of pigmentation from the surface of teeth and proper polishing of their surface, adjustment and polishing of the fillings and their edges in case they increase the retention of biofilm, determination of the intervals of patients’ inspection examination and carry out such inspection examinations. Diagnosis of sick and healthy periodontium, diagnosis of changes on the surface of the enamel, carious and non-carious lesions, diagnosis of caries and changes in the periodontius on an X-ray image, diagnosis of iatrogenic etiological factors. Familiarization with the work of a dentist and instrumentalist, assistance in surgical procedures on periodontium. Oral health education in clients as part of clinical practice. Presentation of a case report for a selected Client.

Credit requirements: Verified fulfilment of the performances and activities listed in the Dental Hygienist Services Records (Logbook). 100% attendance. Elaboration of a case report for a selected client.
