Course objectives
Course Annotation: The course is conceived as a theoretical one. It introduces to the fundamentals of biophysics and its application in the field of midwifery, medical diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Students acquire basic information on the physical differences of the various methods and their biological effects. They become familiar with the different types of these methods and devices and by the means of which these examinations are performed. The objective of the course is to introduce to the basics of selected parts of biophysics and its application in the field of medical diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
The course describes the biophysical principles that are used in medical and nursing practice. In addition to thermodynamics, cellular biophysics, organ biophysics and sensory biophysics, attention is paid to ionizing radiation and protection from its effects.
Having completed the course, student understand the relationships between the measured biosignals (ECG) or physiological values (pressure, temperature) and biophysical mechanisms which determine them withing the organism.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students acquire basic information on the physical differences of the various methods, and their biological effects. They become familiar with the different kinds of the methods and devices by the means of which these examinations are performed.
Professional Skills: Students are able to interpret the physiological values or biosignals.
General Qualification: Students can describe and explain the thermoregulation of the organism and the activities of organs and tissues from a biophysical perspective. They can further describe the types of ionizing radiation and protection possibilities.
Competences: Students can interpret physiologic values obtained as consequence of biophysical processes. They can suggest protection against adverse environmental influences, such as noise, mechanical influences or ionizing radiation. They acquire basic information for working in a controlled area.
