Course objectives
The course provides a basic overview of the development of public administration in the Czech Republic (Czechoslovakia) and allows for good knowledge of the system of public administration and its bodies in various historical periods. In result, students should obtain basic knowledge based on chronological blocks of the subject matter: territorial development and territorial-administrative subdivisions of the Czech State and the individual countries from 10th century to 1848, and the administrative system of the Austrian State in the years 1848-1918, with an emphasis on the developments in the Czech lands. The next historical stage consists of the period 1918-1938 - the administrative development of Czechoslovakia, and in the historical stage of 1938-1945 attempts a familiarization not only with the proceeds of the exile government in London but also with changes in the Protectorate and in the Sudentenland area. This period is logically followed by a familiarization with the changes in post-1945 Czechoslovakia. Professional Knowledge: Students are able to define special terms from the history of administration. They can also explain and give grounds for the changes which have occurred in the history of administration in connection with the historical context. Professional Skills: The Students are able to discuss the issues of the history of the administration, explain logically its continually occurring changes as well as their objectives. General Qualification: Students should have adequate fundamental knowledge about the history of the administration. This should create the ability to take a stance and explain the logic of the changes in the administration, in chronological, historical sequence, including their impact on the current type of administration.

    9. Administrative development in the Habsburg monarchy, with an emphasis on the administrative development in the Czech Republic in the years 1848-1918

Teacher's information
Given the scope of compulsory literature, term papers or any other type of assignment will not be required. Knowledge will be verified by a written assignment containing analytical, synthetic, comparison or descriptive and knowledge-oriented questions, primarily focused on the period after 1848.
The instructor will notify the students on the topics that have not been fully lectured for them to seek in the compulsory literature or at the e-learning site.
