- Course objectives
- The objective of the course is to familiarize the student with clinical practice. Students are placed in various clinical settings - primary, secondary and tertiary care facilities, based on the curriculum (see Clinicals Schedule). Clinical practice is supervised by mentors in close co-operation with the Institute of Nursing faculty members in charge of clinical training. (Each faculty member engaged in clinical practice guides students in their core professional area and is responsible for clinical supervision of student nurses.) Clinical placements for student training are selected according to existing standards. The course develops skills in and knowledge of respective clinical settings and departments. During their clinical practice, the student trains in standard wards, intensive care units and specialist nursing units. The student learns how to differentiate care of patients with various conditions, disabilities and the care of the dying. On completion of the course the student will be able to work in particular clinical placements employing the nursing process methodology under the supervision of a preceptor/mentor. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to implement theoretical knowledge from a series of courses in clinical practice. Professional skills: The student demonstrates nursing diagnosis skills, is able to follow the NANDA taxonomy, to design a care plan, to choose appropriate nursing interventions to achieve expected outcomes, and to evaluate the actual outcomes. The student is able to comply with key principles of nursing care (including prevention of nosocomial infections, personal hygiene, prevention of complications of prolonged bed-ridden status etc.) They are able to provide adequate professional nursing care (administration of medicine, elimination care, fluid balance monitoring, respiratory care, feeding etc.) General ability: The student is able to provide qualified nursing care to patients with selected diseases based on state-of-the-art knowledge in the field. The student develops and improves their skills in clinical practice. Competence: The competences required on completion of clinical practice series are stipulated in accordance with Act 55/2011 Coll. on professional activities of health care workers.

- Fields of clinical practice:
Year 3 - Clinical practice is orientated toward primary, secondary and tertiary care settings. Students will learn to provide care in home settings, in standard and specialized nursing units, using the nursing process methodology. Students will develop their knowledge and skills in providing all types of individualized nursing care to clients/patients in various health and social care facilities.
