Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The goal is to provide students with comprehensive information about discipline of special education, role in the system of sciences and current trends. Students will learn the different kinds of disabilities and disorders, families with a disabled child, the specificity of the development of people with different disabilities and their integration into the educational system, about special education, individual education programs for professional use and integration into society. At the same time to give lectures about special-pedagogical diagnosis, treatment and prevention SEMINAR The subject is closely linked with the lectures of the subject. Seminars are focused on acquiring knowledge by personal or vicarious experiences of the lives of people with disabilities. Students can visit institutes of disabled people, so they can get face-to-face experiences. Knowledge of increasing their awareness of disabilities will surely positively affect their attitudes toward differences in society.
Syllabus
  • 1. Special Education, the aim and subject field. The status of special education in the science system. Breakdown of Special Education. Current trends in the treatment of persons with disabilities. Basic concepts (defect, defectivity, impaired socialization, integration and inclusion).
    2. Families with disabled children. Affected attitudes toward society.
    3. Special-pedagogical diagnostics.
    4. Tyflopaedia - terminology, classification, etiology. Psychological traits of people with visual disabilities. Assistive devices. Principles of communication. Educational and advisory institutes.
    5. Psychopaedia - terminology, classification, etiology. Psychological traits of people with intellectual disabilities. Educational and advisory institutes.
    6. Logopedics - terminology, classification, etiology. Communication disorder. Tools and technical resources for people with impaired communication abilities. Organization of logopedics´care.
    7. Surdopaedia - terminology, classification, etiology. Psychological traits of people with hearing disabilities. Assistive devices. Principles of communication. Educational and advisory institutes.
    8. Somatopaedia - terminology, classification, etiology. Psychological traits of persons with disabilities. Assistive devices. Principles of communication. Educational and advisory institutes.
    9. People with specific learning difficulties - terminology, classification, etiology, reeducation, diagnostics.
    10. People with combined handicaps.
    11. Autism.
    SEMINAR
    1. Disabled child in the family. Siblings of children with disabilities.
    2. Integration - conditions, experiences, impact on child and his family.
    3. Children with visual impairment.
    4. Children with mental disabilities.
    5. Children with hearing impairment.
    6. Children with physical disabilities.
    7. Education of children with autism.
    8. Visits of the school for the visually impaired, school for handicapped, school for the mentally disabled, the Institute for severely mentally handicapped.
