- Course objectives
- The course goal consists in familiarizing the students with main symptoms of mental disorders and with their therapy. Ethical and legal issues in psychiatry will be mentioned as well. After passign the course, the student will be able to assess the patient's mental condition and to choose adequate therapeutic approach.
- Syllabus
- 1. Symptoms and syndromes of mental disorder.
2. Organic mental disorders.
3. Addiction to habit-forming substances.
4. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
5. Mood disorders.
6. Anxious and neurotic disorders.
7. Food intake disorders, sleep disorders, personality disorders.
8. Mental retardation, mental disorders in childhood.
9. Biological, psychiatric and social therapy of mental disorders.
10. Legal issues in psychiatry, ethical aspects of care for mental patients.
11. Particularities of nursing care for mental patients. Assessment of needs and planning of their satisfaction.
12. Nursing care for acute conditions in psychiatry.
13. Nursing care for patients with selected behaviour types.
14. Nursing care for patients with organic mental disorder.
15. Nursing care for patients with addiction to habit-forming substances.
16. Nursing care for patients with psychotic disorder.
17. Nursing care for patients with mood disorder.
18. Nursing care for patients with neurotic disorder.
19. Nursing care for patients with personality disorder, with food intake disorder.

The course can also be completed outside the examination period.
Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Přednáška 3 HOD/SEM, Seminář 3 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- The contact instruction is implemented through the system of tutorials on selected topics. The combined part of the studies is implemented in the e-learning course environment at e-portal http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. The students have study supports including correspondence tasks available for instruction there. The course is concluded by a credit in written or oral form; within it, the student will demonstrate knowledge of basic and recommended reading and be able to discuss the processed correspondence tasks. The student will have opportunity to consult individually the topics studied, through individual or group tutorials or electronic mail.
The condition of awarding of credit is compulsory attendance to lessons, with minimally 80% attendance; the teacher will specify substitutive way of fulfilment of study duties to students who cannot attend compulsory lessons for serious reasons.
Meeting of criteria of credit test, elaboration of seminar essay.
Credit requirements: elaboration of a seminar essay.
Exam requirements: written test, cut-off score 80%.
