- Course objectives
- The course objectives are to gain knowledge about the structure of the human body with an emphasis on systemic and regional anatomy of the head and neck.
- Learning outcomes
- Professional Knowledge: Students can create accurate and durable concrete ideas about the structure of the human body, especially in relation to the oral cavity.
Professional Skills: Students can use professional terminology in the practice of dental hygiene.
General Qualification: Students can navigate the terminology and use this knowledge in practice. They understand the structure, functions and dysfunctions of the human body with a focus on the orofacial region and they understand the principles of diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive procedures used in dentistry.
Competences: Students have acquired the ability to navigate the professional terminology and will continue to develop it on the theoretical level during further studies and clinical practice. - Syllabus
- Lectures:
- 1. Introduction to anatomy, basic concepts. Cell structure and its differentiation. Types of tissues and their basic histological characteristics. Musculoskeletal system. Shape, development and bone growth. Significance of bone tissue in relation to the internal environment. Overview of the skeleton of the human body. Skull bones in detail (incl. space and spine, especially cervical). General structure of the joints.
- 2. Muscular system - overview of muscle groups, their function and motor innervation. Muscles of the head (chewing, facial) and neck in detail.
- 3. Digestive system - oral cavity, teeth and large salivary glands. Structure and function of the digestive tract. Pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, appendix.
- 4. Blood and blood circulation, blood pressure, ECG (orientation). Cardiovascular system 1. Systemic and pulmonary blood circulation, blood. Heart - basic structure, coronary arteries, heart valves and their listening position. Puncture of the pericardium. Capillary system.
- 5. Cardiovascular system 2. Overview of arteries and veins of the head, trunk and limbs. Palpation places and pressure points. Arterial and venous bleeding. Lymphatic system, spleen. The most important regional lymph nodes. Immunity of the human organism.
- 6. Respiratory system. The upper and lower airways. The lungs and pleura. Mediastinum.
- 7. Urinary system. Kidney structure and function Urinary tract: ureters, bladder, male and female urethra. Female reproductive system. Male reproductive system.
- 8. Nervous system - construction of nerve cells and synapses. General structure of the CNS, fundamentals of neural activity - reflection. Sensory organs. Higher nervous activity. Cranial nerves - detail innervation of the face and mouth. Anatomical basis, anesthesia in dentistry. Autonomic nervous system. Orofacial system, i.e. facial skeleton, chewing and mimic muscles, inervation, vascular supply, morphology of permanent and temporary dentition. Sensory organs, principles of structure and function. Skin and skin appendages. Mammary gland, structure and function, lymphatic drainage from the breast.
- Training:
- 1. Practical instruction of individual bone structures.
- 2. Practical instruction of individual structures of the skull.
- 3. Exercises in spatial orientation in the are of the face and oral cavity using the skull 1.
- 4. Exercises in spatial orientation in the are of the face and oral cavity using the skull 2.
- 5. Practical instruction of individual anatomic structures of teeth.
- 6. Recognition and dental description of crowns and radices of individual tooth types on extracted teeth, drawing them from memory with an emphasis on the main distinguishing marks.

- 8. Anatomical maps and atlases in direct connection with the discussed systems.

- Credit requirements: 80% attendance at the training (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
