- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- 1. To develop an understanding of different cultures, including popular culture, and their role in the development of mass media. 2. To encourage media literacy so that students will be more sensitive to media messages and the effects of media on individuals. 3. To understand the ways that advertising media both reflect and shape societal attitudes, values, and behaviors. 4. To become aware of critical approaches which can be applied to the understanding of media and culture and their application to commercialism.

- 1. Cultural Context
- an introduction of how cultural context is interrelated with media
- general perspective of media relationships as they relate to politics, economics and culture in general
2. Production Values
- a look into the production aspects of media and how cultural features affect media production
- how different cultural values influence media production
3. Mythology & Culture
- how myths affect the cultural aspects of media
- description of literacy and culture as they relate to media
4. Racism & Feminism
- historical perspective of the rise of feminism in Western culture
- description of racism and what this entails in the context of media and culture
5. Ethics
- brief study of ethics as it applies to media communication
- issues and cases in media ethics
6. Media & Modern Society
- the role of media in modern society
- how internet is fast becoming the new medium of communication in the 21st century
7. Media & Politics
- media and its effects on politics and vice versa
- cultural variations of media as it applies to politics
8. Media & Economics
- media and international advertising
- issues on culture and its influence on commercialism
9. Media and Violence
- the controversy of violence in media
- current issues in film and television
10. Media & Children
- the influence of media in children´s television
