Degree programme objectives

The proposed study programe is designed in accordance with the National Qualification Framework of Tertiary Education for the field of Historical Sciences and is designed as a follow-up to the bachelor's degree of programe Historical Sciences and related SPs in accordance with the concept of the field of Historical Science education of the National Qualification Framework of Tertiary Education of the Czech Republic (2012). It is based on the modern concept of broadly understood historical disciplines, including disciplines dealing with the protection of cultural heritage, which follow the given historical, economic, social and cultural development on a Central European, European and global scale, in the correlation "individual - society - culture". The wide range of historical, cultural-historical and monumental subjects covers the main currents of humanities disciplines in accordance with today's interdisciplinary approaches and methods. The proposed study programe also develops students' competencies in the field of methodology of historical sciences acquired in the bachelor's degree. The composition of subjects in the study plan corresponds to current knowledge in the field of historical sciences, it reflects the development of the so-called new political historiography, which emphasizes the interdisciplinary cooperation of history and related disciplines and at the same time returns to new perspectives, for example, to the research of the state as a key political institution and the link of the state and society. At the same time, attention is also paid to research currents following the roles of elites, conflicts and communication in shaping the shape of societies that differ in time and territory.

  • Objectives

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • The graduate can work with specialist literature in the field of history and related disciplines.
    • The graduate can search for different types of historical sources depending on the topic of the professional work.
    • The graduate can carry out a historical criticism of the sources, identify the main historical phenomena and interpret the knowledge gained (with the help of specialist literature) in the necessary historical context.
    • The graduate can study historical sources and professional literature in the original version (English, German, Latin).
    • The graduate can perceive historical facts, phenomena and processes in the context of the knowledge of related scientific fields.
    • The graduate demonstrates the ability to independently prepare a qualification thesis and at the same time meet all the requirements that are placed on this type of thesis.

  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

    A graduate can work as an independent professional or researcher in scientific, memory and cultural institutions dealing with science, research and innovation (professional institutes, archives, museums, galleries, heritage preservation institutes, state administration bodies and municipalities operating in the field of heritage preservation and in general care and protection of cultural heritage) - state, public and private sector. They can also find application in the field of tourism and in the field of regional historical and cultural facilities and organizations, including the media sphere. The graduate is ready to continue doctoral studies in historical sciences or a related field.

  • Rules and Conditions for the Creation of a Study Plan

    The creation of study plans is based on the standards and methodology recommended by the National Accreditation Office and the rules of the International Credit System (ECTS); their changes are subject to approval by the FPF SU Academic Senate. The scope of one lesson is standard (45 min.). The structure of the study plan and the ratio of credits obtained in individual subject groups is specified in Annex B-IIa.

    The study plan maintains a balanced ratio between the theoretical part of the teaching, or lectures and seminar form of teaching.

    The study plan maintains the prescribed ratio between common core subjects and specialization.

    The sum of acquired knowledge and skills corresponds to the described profile of the graduate. Students are evaluated according to the unified ECTS classification scale.

    During the two-year course, a student studying SP History must acquire 120 ECTS credits. The student must complete all compulsory courses (70 credits) during the course of study. In addition, the student must obtain 38 credits for subjects in the Compulsory Electives group (PVA and PVB) and 12 credits for subjects in the Electives group. The student chooses optional subjects from the offer of other study programs implemented at FPF SU, or from the remaining subjects of the PVA and PVB groups.

  • Access to Further Studies

    A graduate can develop education within the doctoral study program in the field of historical science education.
