Degree programme objectives

The objectives of the study are to provide a comprehensive theoretical and practical education in the field of audiovisual production - across genres, to motivate students to their own creative activity, to provide them not only with the opportunity to consult, but also to cooperate regularly with professional creators in professional conditions, and to achieve a high level of readiness for practical work in all areas of audiovisual production, especially radio and television production, or for work in other cultural and social institutions. The programme is structured with the intention of deepening the student's knowledge in the fields of art, visual studies, mass communication, history and present-day audiovisual and cinema, with the possibility of further specialisation in scriptwriting, dramaturgy, camera, sound editing or directing audiovisual works across genres as part of the electives. The purpose is to prepare for the profession professionals capable of responsible and independent performance of specific creative activities in the field of audiovisual and cultural institutions, who have both specialized training and a broader overview of cultural history, mass communication, and a range of artistic and journalistic genres. They are both professionally erudite and thoughtful and artistically creative. They are proficient in television and radio work from news fundamentals to journalism to creative and original dramatic production. The study programme therefore includes, in addition to teaching the history and theory of art and audiovisual culture, lectures and seminars on the fundamentals of aesthetics, audiovisual and information technology, production, copyright, sociology of culture, management and marketing. A great emphasis is placed on practical teaching under the guidance of specialists from practice with the background of professional offices and studios of the Faculty of Arts and Science of the Silesian University in Opava. The study also includes internships in domestic institutions.

  • Learning Outcomes

    After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • orient himself in a wide area related to the audiovisual industry: the basics of production work, the basics of camera and editing, sound work and production, directing, scriptwriting, dramaturgy.
    • orient himself in the broad field related to the audiovisual industry: to come up with his own creative ideas, to develop these ideas into his own artistic creation, to choose and defend his own methods of solution.
    • orient himself in the canon of world and Czech cinema and literature, critically reflect on and analyse a work of art.
    • critically approach the media, analyze media outputs and name contemporary issues related to media space.
    • analyse a text in terms of its stylistic structure and communicative function, critically read professional and professional texts in the field.
    • establish and manage his/her own creative company or project.
    • design a distribution and promotion plan for a creative project.
