Abstract
Abstract (in English)
This study investigates forms of national identity of Croatian Czechs from the perspective of cultural anthropology. The Czech minority in Croatia represents a midstream manifestation of national identity, that does not lead to full assimilation or ethnic conflicts, therefore the purpose of the study is to identify the aspects that helped to maintain this status quo. Using qualitative research, the question is: On what basis are some Croatian citizens identified as Czechs? The national identity of the Croatian Czechs has been found to be based in the Czech language and the historical consciousness of belonging to the Czech nation, but at the same time it is tied to Croatia, where they were born and where lies everything they built during their lives. It is precisely the dual home consciousness and the described transnational identity that are the main prerequisites for the non-conflictual coexistence of the Czech minority in Croatia while avoiding its full assimilation.
