Abstract
Abstract (in English)
On an example of Bolek’s V of Opole reign (ca 1400 1460) the study is dealing with a relationship between sacred and profane power within the space of Late Medieval Silesian Duchies. Most commonly historiography defines him as a heretic and follower of Hussite movement. Cooperation between Bolek V and Hussites can be seen in the years 1430 and 1433 when Duke of Opole was defeated in battle of Rybnik. After this defeat he was no longer active in Hussite movement. After that date, no evidence confirming his heresy or utraquism can be found in preserved sources. In addition to the alliance with Hussites modern historiography usually points out his moves against the Church of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle at his capital city Głogówek to prove his heresy. At the end of twenties Bolek took the property of mentioned church. Few years later, this led to the abandonment of the city by the canons. They returned after Bolek’s V. death in 1460. It is necessary to mention that this seizure of church property was a rare case and we haven’t any other record speaking about Bolek’s hostility towards the other churches in his domain. On the contrary, his name is connected with the foundation of the Franciscan observant’s monastery in Głogówek during the years 1443 and 1447. By supporting the order, what was perceived as crucial tool of defence against heresy at this time, Bolek declared his creed. It is also the reason why he, in spite of his alliance with Hussite armies or his occasional struggles with church, should not be considered a heretic or Hussite. The significance of mentioned monastery in Bolek´s self-representation policy is documented also by the fact he planned to be buried there.
