This study explores the development of American Jewish prose in the period of modernism, i.e., from the second decade of the 20th century until the end of the Second World War. The aim of this literary-historical publication is to provide a more comprehensive picture of American Jewish prose, especially of the 1920s and 1930s, which highlights the diversity of not only American Jewish literature, but American literature in general. Due to the fact that the majority of these authors are not very well known, more attention is paid to the texts themselves rather than to critical theories. Due to the vastness of the topic, the study focuses only on those works and authors that have introduced new themes, characters, or narrative techniques into American (Jewish) literature.
