Abstract
The issue of brownfields is more than current today. During 2020, many new abandoned buildings and areas were created, mainly due to the pandemic situation, which affected business entities and their activities in cities and municipalities in the countries of the world. The affected municipalities and cities then increase their costs, which they then spend, for example, on the maintenance of buildings and premises or protection against looting, due to the fact that the private owner is no longer interested in the building or complex or does not have enough financial means to use the building or complex. The paper focuses on the issue of brownfields in the Czech Republic. The aim of the paper is to compare the European Structural and Investment Funds within the programming period 2007 - 2013 and 2014 - 2020 focusing on the development of regions in the field of brownfields regeneration in the Czech Republic. Part of the paper is a comparison of the situation of brownfields from 2018 and 2020 based on their degree of contamination, and in 2018 a comparison was made of how many abandoned buildings and areas were supported in the case of brownfields regeneration by local governments. The given comparison is realized at the regional level (NUTS III) on territory of the Czech Republic.
