The objective of the paper is to determine the current status of scientific research activities in the field of SMART economy concept. This study deals with bibliometric analysis of more than 2,000 research in the period of twenty years using the broader concept of “Smart Economy”. The results show that the examined topic had strong progress in the last six years and mostly it was dealt with experts from China and the U.S. Half of studies were in the form of proceedings papers and when the researches were published in journals, the most “used” was Sustainability and Journal of Cleaner Production, which indicates the often research areas: engineering, computer science and business economics. The linkages among innovation, demand, than among smart cities, smart grid and internet were found.
