The present article points to the lasting relevance of Alan Watts’ study of the aesthetic, cultural and psychological impact of the psychedelic experience for the twenty-first century. Drawing on a variety of sources, including the latest scholarship on Watts, and a variety of academic disciplines, such as psychology, theology, or literary theory, the article tries to revaluate Watts’ Joyous Cosmology in the light of the social, political and environmental developments from the mid-twentieth century until the present era.
