The paper deals with the possibilities of new processor architectures. The most common processors are based on the x86 instruction set-based architecture among personal computers and many server platforms. On the other hand, mobile devices use processors based on the ARM architecture, which matches desktop processors’ performance in many respects. It turns out that the new approach of creating a chip architecture can bring significantly higher processor performance and, at the same time, save energy consumption. One of the technologies is the creation of SoC. The paper focuses on a practical comparison of Intel and Apple processors’ performance, representing two different architectures. It presents the results of functional tests, their comparison and demonstrations of the possibilities of using the new architecture in mobile computers and desktops and notebooks. The paper uses benchmarks, a comparison of compilation and execution of programs, and standard applications. The article shows the possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of ARM processor architecture in mobile applications.
