Abstract

V originále

The present study concentrates on the races and fantastic creatures represented in J. R. R. Tolkien vast universe and their traditional background, significant values and origins as described in the Silmarillion and other connected work, that established archetypal races crucial for future high fantasy characters. Its purpose is to highlight the mannerism typical for each fraction with given emphasis on priorities and heritage, laying stress on the importance of traditions and values, alimentation, music, morality, and cultural surroundings in general, with inclusion of linguistic features, namely languages created and spoken in the continent of the Middle-earth. The aim of the study is to analyse and later compare different races created by Tolkien, focusing on all good, evil, and neutral representatives of Arda, also including various relationships and stances between the races.
