Abstract

V originále

Romani people are basically omnipresent. They are spread all over the world; there is probably no country, in which they would not live. Most of them are already assimilated, but there are still tribes living in separation from “civilization”. They live in closed groups called kumpania. While they are considered as one of the minorities with highest number of members, their lifestyle is arguably not discussed to the extent it should be. Romani people have a very distinct hierarchy within their groups, yet it varies from country to country, from family to family. This paper focuses specifically on the role of women in the literary work of Romani author Oksana Marafioti. It analyses the specific functioning of women within the society around the author herself and her family. She also includes some cultural knowledge of Roma people and stereotypes existing among society. The main discussion focuses on an analysis of representation of two important women in Marafioti´s life: her mother and her step-mother, whose fates reflect some of the standards of the Romani family unit.
