Eine einheitliche deutsche Orthographie gibt es seit 1901. Gleichzeitig beginnen in diesem Jahr die Bemühungen um eine Reform, vor allem der Punkte, die 1901 noch nicht erledigt waren. Erst 1996 kam es zu einem Ende der Reformbemühungen, doch die gesellschaftliche Diskussion darüber bewirkte, dass ein Rat für deutsche Rechtschreibung eingerichtet wurde, der die Reform im Jahr 2006 reformierte.

Jednotný německý pravopis existuje od roku 1901. Zároveň v tomto roce začaly snahy o jeho reformu, zejména těch bodů, které nebyly v roce 1901 dořešeny. Teprve v roce 1996 snahy o reformu skončily, ale společenská diskuse o ní vyvolala vznik Rady pro německý pravopis, která reformu v roce 2006 reformovala.

There has been an uniform institutional German orthography since 1901. In this year efforts about the reform start, expecially about these problems, which have not been solved in 1901. Finally, in 1996 the efforts about a reform come to an end, but the social disscussion about it had the effect that a Concil of German Orthography was installed, which reformed the reform in 2006.
