Článek přináší zamyšlení nad existencí tzv. krajanské češtiny, tedy jazyka, jímž krajané v Daruvaru a okolí mluví. Zachování českého jazyka je v symbióze s existencí českých škol v Chorvatsku a také s existencí české menšiny. Na problematiku nahlížím z antropologického pohledu, který nikdy nemůže dosáhnout emického (místního, komunitního), v tomto případě krajanského hlediska. Bilingvismus krajanů je samozřejmý. Krajanská čeština není svébytným, na spisovné češtině nezávislým jazykem, ani nemá nezávislý jazykový rejstřík. Jen zachování její spisovné podoby mezi krajany, které je závislé na kvalitním českém školství, udrží češtinu jako plnohodnotný jazyk v bilingvní komunikaci mezi krajany. Zánik češtiny užívané krajany slovem i písmem by vedl k zániku této komunity.

The article presents a reflection on the existence of the so called "compatriot Czech", i.e. the language spoken by compatriots in Daruvar and its surroundings. The preservation of the Czech language is in symbiosis with the existence of Czech schools in Croatia and also with the existence of the Czech minority. I am looking at the issue from an anthropological point of view, which can never reach the emic (local, community), in this case the compatriot point of view. The bilingualism of compatriots is self-evident. Czech is not a language of its own, independent of written Czech, nor does it have an independent linguistic register. Only the preservation of the written form of the Czech language among the compatriots will preserve Czech as a fully-fledged language in bilingual communication among compatriots. The disappearance of the Czech language used by compatriots in written and spoken expression would lead to the demise of this community.
