Abstract

V originále

The present paper deals with the Irish vampire as the source of inspiration for other vampire stories. Tracing vampires on the Emerald Isle from faeries to Le Fanu´s Carmilla and Stoker´s Dracula, the paper argues that the influence of the Irish authors on one another, as well as on other authors, has been undeniably substantial. Presenting examples from Irish mythology to W. B. Yeats, the analysis aims at the revival of interest in the old-fashioned type of vampire that has been overshadowed by the modern, usually American, vampires in the last decades.
