The beginning of the 21st century brought new challenges for crisis managers. They are mainly connected to climate change and extreme weather. Floods, forest fires, windstorms, but also the threats of tornadoes are increasingly frequent crisis phenomena that affect society in Slovakia. However, the knowledge of dealing with specific types of emergency events is very different at different levels of public administration. Experts within the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak republic and crisis managers at district offices are best prepared to deal with emergency events, because they have the necessary qualifications. Main part of their work is to deal with the prevention of crisis phenomena on a daily basis. On the contrary, crisis managers and mayors of cities and municipalities are the least prepared and the most burdened in the event of an emergency. In the 21st century, the possibilities of training crisis managers have moved forward thanks to the development of modern technologies.
