The volume includes 6 large studies and an extensive introduction and conclusion. These are papers presented as part of the section of the 18th Congress of Polish Mediewalists by researchers from the Polish Republic, the Czech Republic and Moldova. They concern three groups of issues - the bipolarity of Europe torn between the East and the West (works on the reform of the Reich at the end of the 15th century and on the meanders of the history of Moldova in the 15th-16th centuries). The second group is the study of the departure from medieval universalism in favor of particularism (two surveys on the Silesian-Moravian border and church issues in the Duchy of Cieszyn before the Reformation). The third block concerns the concept of the Middle Ages itself - the conditions of the history of this era, closely related to the Bible, and attempts to define this era in a new way, after previous criticism (deconstruction) of the existing concepts related to it. The panorama of the end of the era is presented in an extensive introduction, and a reflection on the image of history, especially through the prism of medieval cartography, is included in the conclusion.
