Text reflektuje smrt jako jedno z velkých témat stáří – a to nejen smrt vlastní, ale také smrt blízkých osob. Prezentuje postoje ke smrti u seniorů, reflektuje strach a úzkost ze smrti a nastiňuje společenské rituály jako způsob vyrovnávání se se smrtí a smrtelností ve společnosti a u jednotlivců. Pozornost je věnována také truchlení, jako reakci na ztrátu smrtí, přičemž jsou nastíněny signifikantní ztráty ve stáří, např. smrt dítěte, sourozence, vrstevníků, kamarádů, spolupacientů, včetně ztráty oblíbeného zvířátka. Zvláštní pozornost je pak věnována ovdovění, respektive specifiku úmrtí životního partnera ve vyšším věku.

The text reflects on death as one of the major themes of old age – not only one’s own death, but also the death of loved ones. It presents attitudes towards death in seniors, reflects on fear and anxiety about death, and outlines social rituals as a way of coping with death and mortality in society and among individuals. Attention is also paid to mourning as a reaction to loss through death, outlining significant losses in old age, such as the death of a child, sibling, peer, friend, fellow patient, including the loss of a favorite pet. Special attention is paid to widowhood, or the specifics of the death of a life partner in old age.
