Die Germanistik in Mitteleuropa sieht sich mit erheblichen Herausforderungen konfrontiert, die sich im neuen Jahrtausend ergeben haben, darunter ein rückläufiges Interesse an der deutschen Sprache und ein sinkendes Niveau der Deutschkenntnisse bei Studienbewerbern. Der Beitrag erläutert die möglichen Chancen und das Potenzial der Germanistik in diesem Kontext in Mitteleuropa. Es wird darauf hingewiesen, dass das Fehlen eines klaren Konzepts für den Sprachunterricht und die Sprachpolitik sowie das sinkende Interesse am Erlernen der deutschen Sprache als zweite Fremdsprache bedeutsame Hindernisse darstellen. Trotz dieser Herausforderungen werden gemeinsame Ziele ohne Grenzen als Möglichkeit betrachtet. Strategien zur Förderung des Deutschunterrichts und zur Steigerung des Interesses am Erlernen der Sprache werden diskutiert, um das Potenzial der Germanistik in Mitteleuropa zu maximieren. Gleichzeitig stellt dieser Plenarvortrag eine Einladung zu unserer gemeinsamen wissenschaftlichen Reflexion über den aktuellen Stand sowie Zukunft der Germanistik und der deutschen Sprache in Europa dar. Auf der Grundlage eines interdisziplinären Erfahrungsaustausches sollen Denkanstöße gegeben werden, aktuelle Erkenntnisse weitergeleitet und neue Wege diskutiert werden.

Germanistika ve střední Evropě čelí v novém tisíciletí novým výzvám, včetně klesajícího zájmu o německý jazyk a klesající úrovně znalostí němčiny mezi uchazeči o studium na vysokých školách. Příspěvek vysvětluje možné příležitosti a potenciál germanistiky v tomto kontextu ve střední Evropě. Poukazuje na to, že významnou překážkou je neexistence jasné koncepce výuky jazyků a jazykové politiky a klesající zájem o studium němčiny jako druhého cizího jazyka. Navzdory těmto výzvám jsou společné cíle bez hranic vnímány jako příležitost. Budou diskutovány strategie na podporu výuky němčiny a zvýšení zájmu o studium tohoto jazyka s cílem maximalizovat potenciál germanistiky ve střední Evropě. Tato plenární přednáška je zároveň pozvánkou k naší společné akademické reflexi současného stavu a budoucnosti germanistiky a německého jazyka v Evropě. Na základě interdisciplinární výměny zkušeností budou poskytnuty podněty k zamyšlení, předány aktuální poznatky a diskutovány nové cesty.

German studies in Central Europe is facing considerable challenges in the new millennium, including a declining interest in the German language and a falling level of German language skills among university applicants. The article explains the possible opportunities and potential of German studies in this context in Central Europe. It points out that the lack of a clear concept for language teaching and language policy and the declining interest in learning German as a second foreign language are significant obstacles. Despite these challenges, common goals without borders are seen as an opportunity to strengthen German studies in Central Europe and to maintain the importance of German in the labour market. Strategies to promote the teaching of German and to increase interest in learning the language will be discussed in order to maximise the potential of German studies in Central Europe. At the same time, this plenary lecture is an invitation to our joint academic reflection on the current state and future of German studies and the German language in Europe. On the basis of an interdisciplinary exchange of experiences, food for thought will be provided, current findings will be passed on and new paths will be discussed.
