The mission of a number of professional monographs, which we called "compendies", is to make available current findings from the field of librarianship and information science and practice to a wide professional public, especially to students of bachelor's and master's degrees. The publication of a series of compendia was initiated by the scientific-pedagogical department of librarianship and information studies1 of the University of Silesia in Opava, and the publication of the compendia was kindly undertaken by our partner Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library in Ostrava. The goal of the compendiums is to provide students with a summary of knowledge and information that is directly related to the internationally recognized core of the field of library and information science. Individual author studies in a number of compendiums correspond to topics and disciplines and accredited subjects of education in the Library and Information Studies study program. Our ambition is to collect professional content in compendia in such a way as to help students master the basics of the field and the latest trends for state final exams.
