Výstava se zabývá otázkou viditelné a neviditelné materiality ve vizuální kultuře a umění. Mnohé aspekty vizuálního vnímání čekají na naši vlastní interpretaci a konkretizaci, bez níž by si zachovaly povahu indiferentního, beztvarého jevu, jakési smyslové a plastické hmoty. Vstupní část výstavy zahrnuje monotypy odosobněného, abstrahovaného města a lesa, jejichž rysy se na paletě individuálních emocí slévají ve společný znak uzavřenosti a neurčitosti. V další části výstavy autor představuje svou charakteristickou „blátivou malbu“ volně inspirovanou impresionismem, ale již poučenou dalším směřováním modernismu. V sérii obrazů věnovaných pohledům z jeho ateliéru a krajiny kolem Milešovky reflektuje temně romantizovanou každodennost, která je prostá a potenciálně znepokojivě děsivá. Václav Hájek je historik umění a teoretik vizuální kultury. Vyučuje na Fakultě humanitních studií Univerzity Karlovy a na katedře scénografie DAMU. Zabývá se problematikou stereotypů ve vizuálních médiích a lidského vidění. Působí také jako výtvarník, básník, organizátor výstav a konferencí.

The exhibition deals with the question of visible and invisible materiality in visual culture and art. Many aspects of visual perception await our own interpretation and concretization, without which they would retain the nature of an indifferent, formless phenomenon, a kind of sensual and plastic matter. The initial part of the exhibition includes monotypes of a depersonalized, abstracted city and forest, whose features merge into a common sign of enclosure and indeterminacy on the palette of individual emotions. In the next part of the exhibition, the artist presents his characteristic "mud painting" loosely inspired by Impressionism, but already informed by the further direction of Modernism. In a series of paintings devoted to views from his studio and the landscape around Milešovka, he reflects on a darkly romanticized everyday life that is simple, yet potentially disturbing. Václav Hájek is an art historian and theorist of visual culture. He teaches at the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University and at the Department of Scenography of the DAMU. He deals with the issue of stereotypes in visual media and human vision. He also works as a visual artist, poet, organizer of exhibitions and conferences.
