This chapter explores the concepts of social mobility, nature, and community in Rebecca Solnit’s Cinderella Liberator (2019). Focusing on the role of social mobility, communnity, and nature, the chapter places Solnit’s version in the context of American immigration narratives and Czechoslovac variations of the tale, which foreground the personal indepedence of Cinderella as well her close relationship with the natural world, and have not received much critical attention.
